Pedal Power

Over the last 6 months I've been working towards my upcoming exhibition; 'New paintings of the Lake District' so I've spent quite some time up there, looking for new and interesting things to paint.

ranch cows 2

I recently returned from a great painting trip to California, where I've been itching to go for a while. I wanted to get an American twist on the cows theme and to see that legendary coastline, the Big Sur. I had hoped that both would be worth a long haul flight and thankfully, I was right.

It’s finished – finally!

Thursday, 11 July 2013 21:49:04 Europe/London

While I was under no illusions about the work involved in creating a new website, it’s taken far longer than I ever anticipated! I know a website’s important and that nowadays it’s the face of the business, but there ALWAYS seems to be other things that need doing instead.

New Studio

Thursday, 11 July 2013 21:11:07 Europe/London

As romantic and authentic as it may have been, my studio in the top of the windmill tower wasn’t without it’s problems.
It’s double height space and ‘retreat-like’ position, not to mention terrific views, made it an almost perfect workroom.

What to paint…?

Thursday, 11 July 2013 21:11:07 Europe/London

I know that the popular notion of an artist’s day is of floating around, ‘Waiting for Inspiration’ but for most artists, it just couldn’t work like that! As with most professions, you have to work pretty hard to make a living from it and that means very little hanging around!

School visit

Thursday, 11 July 2013 21:11:07 Europe/London

My 8 year old daughter Amelie, and her class from school recently paid a visit to my studio to watch me paint. Following a quick look round the gallery, they sat down on my studio floor to watch how a cow came about.

What time is it…??!!

Thursday, 11 July 2013 20:09:13 Europe/London

The 11 balls of yellow fluff that we acquired last August are now fully fledged, fully feathered, fully vocal chickens. There are 3 cockerels amongst them which don’t seem to be able to tell the time (crowing at first light- fine, 2am – not so much!). Also, they’ve all gradually abandoned a warm, safe, dry & spacious chicken coop in favour of a conifer tree where all but one (and her 2 new chicks) have eloped to.

London 2013

Thursday, 11 July 2013 13:31:24 Europe/London

Well I’m 12 months too late for any bandwagon as far as London is concerned, but as a subject it’s not something that’s really leapt out at me until now. A few weeks ago however, we’d gone to London for a family trip. It was particularly cold but for the most part, there were clear blue skies and uninterrupted sun. The kind of sun that makes everything seem tickety boo!
