Seascapes by James Bartholomew
I have been painting the sea for over 20 years and it remains one of my favorite subjects. I spend several days at a time walking the coast, typically in remote and less explored locations. Subjects tend to present themselves as they change constantly with the light and conditions. The energy and motion of the sea is something that I try to convey, hence the gestural and energetic marks. Strong light and colour are usually the things that draw me to a subject and these often become the starting point for a picture.
